In aanloop naar de Rotterdamse gemeenteraadsverkiezingen in maart 2026 vindt tijdens Het Grote CO₂ Verkiezingsdebat hét debat plaats over de toekomst van de gebouwde stad. In de setting van de MVRDV-tentoonstelling Carbon Confessions, gaan Rotterdamse politieke partijen met elkaar in debat over de vraag: hoe bouwen we een duurzame, betaalbare en toekomstbestendige stad? Welke keuzes moeten er nú worden gemaakt om de CO₂-emissies fors terug te dringen? Hoe wordt Rotterdam écht Paris Proof? En hoe versnellen we de transitie in de gebouwde omgeving?
Tijdens deze avond debatteren vertegenwoordigers van de Rotterdamse politieke partijen over urgente thema’s die de toekomst van onze stad bepalen, zoals Wonen, Energiearmoede, Mobiliteit en Circulaire Economie. Elk thema wordt ingeleid met een prikkelend feit, gevolgd door een krachtig debat onder leiding van moderator Geert Maarse.
Dit is dé plek waar ontwerpers, ontwikkelaars, bewoners, studenten, corporaties, beleggers en andere stadsmakers samenkomen om te horen welke concrete stappen partijen de komende vier jaar willen zetten. Het publiek speelt daarbij een actieve rol in het debat.

The Great CO2 Election Debate
In the run-up to the Rotterdam municipal elections in March 2026, The Great CO₂ Election Debate will host the key debate on the future of the built city. In the setting of the MVRDV-exhibition Carbon Confessions Rotterdam’s political parties will debate the central question: how do we build a sustainable, affordable, and future-proof city? What choices must be made now to drastically reduce CO₂ emissions? How can Rotterdam truly become Paris Proof? And how do we accelerate the transition in the built environment?
During this evening, representatives of Rotterdam’s political parties will debate urgent themes that shape the future of our city, such as Housing, Energy Poverty, Mobility, and the Circular Economy. Each theme is introduced by a thought-provoking fact, followed by a robust debate moderated by Geert Maarse.
This is the place where designers, developers, residents, students, housing associations, investors, and other city-makers come together to hear what concrete steps parties plan to take over the next four years. The audience plays an active role in the debate.
