Barbara Stok is a Dutch comic artist. Her latest graphic novel The Philosopher, the Dog and the Wedding became a bestseller and won several prices. It is about Hipparchia, one of the first female philosophers in Ancient Greece. Stok has fourteen books to her name. Her early work was autobiographical in nature, constantly questioning the meaning of life and right and wrong, but always with a light touch. NRC Handelsblad calls her ‘one of the most important comics creators in the Netherlands’ and The Times and The Guardian also wrote rave reviews. Her graphic novel Vincent, about Vincent van Gogh, has been published in more than twenty countries around the world.
Next to this talk, you can expect drinks, bites and a short movie handpicked by AFFR curator Jord den Hollander. Doors open at 18:00, lecture starts at 19:00. Tickets available for 5 euro. Get them here.
